Chapter 214 Crying for Mom
Chapter 214 Crying for Mom
Caught off guard, a plate of powder was unceremoniously splashed onto Andy's face.
The pungent powder got into his eyes, and Andy instinctively closed them, covering his face with his hands. His eyes felt like they were on fire, the burning sensation spreading rapidly.
The next moment, a guard stepped forward and wiped Andy's face with a white cloth.
......
Under the guard's arrangement, Andy received his prison uniform and the prison number.
At night, Andy lay on his iron bunk bed. The entire prison was unusually quiet, so quiet that he could even hear his own heartbeat.
However, at that moment, a soft sob broke the silence.
In the silence, the faint sound was exceptionally clear, drawing the attention of many prisoners. They jumped off their beds, came to the cell door, and looked in the direction from which the sound came.
On the first floor of the prison, a burly, fat man was leaning against the cell door, sobbing softly.
He was wearing a prison uniform with a number on his chest. The fat man seemed unable to cope with the pressure of the prison environment and had completely broken down.
The other prisoners watched the poor guy silently, without feeling any sympathy. Instead, they started to jeer and verbally harass the fat man. After all, this was a prison, and the people here were not good people.
Inside the cell, Herwood stared intently at the crying fat man, a surge of barely suppressed excitement welling up within him.
Every time new prisoners arrive at Shawshank Prison, the long-serving inmates make a special bet—they wager which newcomer will be the first to break down in tears, unable to bear the prison's harsh conditions. This time was no different.
Hewu had placed his bet early on on this seemingly fragile fat man, convinced that the chubby fellow would be terrified and weep uncontrollably on the first night. Now, it seemed his bet had been a resounding success, and he thought smugly, "My judgment was spot on!"
On the second floor of the prison, Red, a black man, looked through the iron bars at the cell next door, but the cell next door was unusually quiet, without a sound.
Reed frowned, muttering to himself, "This is really strange... Could I have misjudged him?"
Red's face was full of surprise as he began to re-examine the seemingly frail Andy.
Red was secretly amazed. He never expected this guy to have such a good mentality. Most people would fall into panic and despair after entering prison, but Andy was unusually calm, as if he had been mentally prepared for all of this.
Red couldn't help but wonder what allowed Andy to face adversity so calmly? Did he possess a hidden inner strength or some special experience?
Red lost big in this bet; he had staked ten cigarettes on Andy.
......
He Wu leaned against the cell door. "Fat pig, I can hear you breathing. Don't be fooled by these idiots. It's not that bad here. Let me tell you, I'll introduce you and get you into the swing of things. Some comrades want to get close to you, and also your white, fleshy, fat ass."
These words completely broke the fat man's defenses.
He reached out and grabbed the railing, shouting loudly.
"I don't want to go to jail... I want to go home! I want my mom..."
Seeing the fat man break down, the veterans in the prison, who loved watching the drama unfold, kept shouting loudly, and the commotion in the prison grew louder and louder.
Such noise inside the prison naturally angered the guards on duty, and the cell door was opened.
Captain Haley, the head of the guards, strode in with his men, looking menacing.
"What the hell are you guys doing?"
Haley brandished his baton and shouted, "Shut up if you don't want trouble!"
He walked up to the fat man and said coldly, "You little brat, what's wrong with you?"
Hewood, however, didn't take it seriously. He chuckled and said to Haley, "Hey, boss, don't be so serious. He's just a newbie. Give him some time to adjust."
Haley glared at Herwood and warned, "You better behave yourself, or you'll regret it."
The fat man clearly hadn't grasped the situation. He watched as the guard captain, Hailey, remained oblivious to the gravity of the situation and continued to cry and shout.
"Please don't lock me up, please don't lock me up!"
"I don't want to count to three, I don't even want to count to one! Shut up right now! Otherwise, don't blame me for being impolite!" Hailey's face gradually became impatient.
It seemed that if the fat man said just one more word, he would rush into the cell and teach him a lesson!
Despite Haley's warning, the fat man continued to cry and shout, "You don't understand, I shouldn't be in jail."
This completely enraged Haley.
"Open the door!"
At his command, the guards immediately stepped forward and opened the cell door.
Enraged, Haley yanked the fat man out of the cell. This fat man dared to openly disobey his orders; if he didn't teach this fat man a lesson, where would he put his face, and how would he ever be able to stand in Shawshank Prison again?
Haley, with a fierce expression, grabbed the fat man's clothes and dragged him out of the cell like a dead dog. Then, he raised his baton high and smashed it down on the fat man without hesitation.
"boom!"
With the first blow, the fat man let out a piercing scream.
However, Hailey showed no sign of pausing or softening his grip, and then came another blow, two more blows... Each blow carried a sharp whistling sound and tremendous force, landing heavily on the fat man's obese body.
The fat man lay on the ground, trying to dodge Haley's attacks, but he was clearly too slow. Haley's attacks were as relentless as a storm, leaving him no way to evade them.
Haley kicked the fat man, knocking him over.
As time went by, the fat man's screams grew weaker and weaker until he finally collapsed to the ground, unable to move. His body was covered in wounds, and blood seeped from them.
Haley stood to the side, panting heavily, a satisfied look on his face. He seemed to feel no remorse for his recent atrocities, as if it were just part of his daily work.
Or perhaps Haley didn't treat the prisoners in the prison as human beings at all. As the captain of the prison guards, he could do whatever he wanted as long as no one died.
Inside Shawshank Prison, apart from Warden Norton, Haley was practically all-powerful!
After beating up the fat man, Haley looked around the cell and shouted, "If anyone dares to make a sound again, I'll beat you all to the point of hospitalization! Everyone gets a share!"
"Did you all understand?"
