Chapter 569:Pummel Them
Chapter 569:Pummel Them
"Hand over your provisions or be prepared to suffer."
The tension rose instantly.
And this time there was no calm negotiation in the air.
The moment the Beastmen blocked their path, the atmosphere tightened instantly, and a cold tension spread through the area while the elven guards reacted without delay and placed their hands on their weapons.
Karlo's eyes narrowed as he looked at the group standing ahead, and his gaze moved across them carefully before he slowly turned his head toward Ethan, and there was a clear question in his eyes.
Ethan met his gaze for a brief moment, and then he let out a quiet breath while rolling his shoulders slightly as if loosening up.
"Let's just pummel them and throw them away," he said calmly.
There was no hesitation in his tone, and it sounded as if he was talking about something simple.
Karlo stared at him for a second, and then a faint smirk appeared on his lips as he gave a small nod.
"Got it," he replied.
The next moment, everything moved at once.
SWISH!
Before the Beastmen could even react properly, Ethan's figure blurred, and he vanished from his spot before appearing right in front of the one who had spoken earlier.
The Beastman's eyes widened in shock, and his mouth opened.
"What—"
CRACK!
Ethan's fist slammed straight into his face, and the impact was brutal while a loud cracking sound echoed through the area, and the Beastman's body lifted off the ground before being sent flying backward, and he crashed heavily into the snow while dirt and ice scattered everywhere.
At the same time, Karlo stepped forward smoothly, and his blade moved in a clean arc while striking another Beastman across the side and knocking him off his feet before he could even raise his weapon.
The elven guards followed immediately, and they rushed in from the sides while surrounding the remaining Beastmen, and within seconds the entire situation turned one-sided.
BOOM!
Another Beastman tried to attack from the side, and he rushed toward Ethan with a shout, but Ethan turned without any delay and kicked him straight in the chest, and the force of the strike sent him rolling across the ground while he cried out in pain.
"AAARGH!"
"Shit—!"
They tried to resist, and a few of them swung their weapons wildly, but the gap between them was too big, and their movements were slow compared to Ethan and Karlo.
Every strike from Ethan carried weight, and every hit pushed them back without giving them any chance to recover, while Karlo's movements were sharp and precise, and he cut them down cleanly without wasting any motion.
The Beastmen were overwhelmed completely.
Within moments, they were all on the ground.
Some were groaning in pain while clutching their injuries, and some lay still while trying to catch their breath, and a few did not even dare to move as fear showed clearly on their faces.
Ethan stepped forward slowly, and his shadow fell over them while his expression turned cold and serious.
He bent slightly and grabbed one of them by the collar, and then he lifted him just enough so their eyes met.
"Now," he said, and his voice was calm but carried pressure.
"Talk."
The Beastman trembled as he looked at Ethan, and his lips shook while he tried to speak.
"We… we were just—"
Ethan tightened his grip slightly, and his fingers pressed harder into the cloth.
"Don't waste my time," he said.
The Beastman flinched immediately.
"We were not here for provisions!" he blurted out quickly, and his voice cracked.
Karlo frowned as he heard that, and his brows pulled together.
"…Then why the hell are you here?" he asked.
The Beastman swallowed hard, and his eyes moved nervously between Ethan and Karlo.
"We were sent to test…" he said hesitantly.
"Test what?" Ethan asked without loosening his grip.
"Test your stance," the Beastman replied.
Silence fell for a brief moment, and even the wind seemed to slow down.
Karlo's expression changed slightly, and confusion appeared on his face.
"What?" he said.
The Beastman rushed to continue.
"To see… if you would help humans… or refuse them," he said quickly.
Ethan's eyes narrowed further.
"And?" he asked.
The Beastman hesitated again, but Ethan's grip tightened slightly.
"…And report back," he said.
Karlo's brows furrowed deeply as he processed the words, and he shook his head slightly.
"…That doesn't make sense," he muttered.
Ethan did not respond immediately, and instead his gaze turned colder as something clicked in his mind.
A thought formed.
And then his eyes widened slightly.
"…Wait," he muttered under his breath.
Karlo looked at him quickly.
"What?" he asked.
Ethan's expression darkened, and his jaw tightened.
"Fuck…" he said quietly.
Karlo's face stiffened.
"…What is it?" he asked again.
Ethan looked at him directly, and his voice grew heavier.
"That means whichever side we help…" he said slowly.
11:30
"…they will assume the elves have allied with them."
Karlo's eyes widened in shock.
"…What?" he said.
Ethan clenched his jaw slightly, and his grip on the Beastman tightened unconsciously.
"And since we just handed over provisions to humans…" he added.
The realization hit both of them at the same time.
Hard.
Karlo's expression turned ugly instantly, and his fists clenched as frustration and anger flashed in his eyes.
"This is bad," he said.
Ethan nodded once.
"This is not a random investigation," he said, and his tone turned colder.
"This is a setup."
His gaze shifted forward, and his eyes carried a sharp edge.
"A high-level one."
For a moment, both of them stayed silent while the weight of the situation settled heavily in their minds. Then Karlo turned immediately, and his expression grew tense.
"Now!" he said sharply.
"I think you should quickly inform the Queen about this and ask her for her stance."
Ethan did not argue, and he gave a small nod.
"I will do it immediately," he replied.
The situation had just changed.
