Chapter 127 Departure to the Border
Chapter 127 Departure to the Border
"Doctor Bai, the general has ordered that we set up camp five miles outside of Ancheng tonight!"
A young general came galloping on horseback from the front team and reported to Bai Xin and his group's carriage.
"Okay, thank you for your hard work!" Bai Xin, who was sitting on the edge of the carriage, looked at him and said with a smile.
"No, it's not hard! I'll take my leave first." The young general blushed slightly when he saw Bai Xin being so polite. He bowed to Bai Xin on his horse and then turned around and galloped away.
"Your current identity is really stressful!" Li Ze teased her with a smile.
Although they called her Dr. Bai, she was also their general's wife. It was indeed rare in that feudal era for a general's wife to say thank you for their hard work.
Bai Xin rolled her eyes at him and didn't bother to pay attention to him. Status was status, courtesy was courtesy, there was no conflict.
Then he said to him, "We can almost stop setting up the medical tent!"
Ye Qi and his men marched very quickly. After they had dealt with their affairs, they had almost reached the border of Lancheng in less than a month since they set out from Kyoto.
In their previous lives, they received missions, flying thousands of miles a day, and fighting all night was not a problem. So Bai Xin followed Liu Zhi's military medical team and sat in his own carriage, and he didn't feel tired.
Before setting out for Lancheng, Ye Qi and his men had to go to Ancheng to prepare enough food and grass, and rest for a day or two before continuing their journey.
Generally, in such situations, Bai Xin and his men would set up a simple medical tent so that soldiers with acute illnesses could receive timely treatment.
"After leaving Ancheng, this place is indeed barren and desolate!" Li Ze said as he got out of the car and looked around.
"Yes, the mountains are high but no trees grow, and the land is loose and cannot retain water, so it is indeed difficult to grow crops and make a living." Bai Xin nodded.
"No wonder Xichang always wants to invade Lancheng. If they capture Lancheng, the buffer zone, then Ancheng can easily become theirs and their resources can be guaranteed." Li Ze analyzed secretly.
"Ye Qi and the others have been guarding this remote place called Lancheng for several years. It's really hard work." Bai Xin said with a little heartache.
"Shu Ru and his men's main industry is in Ancheng, and now it has been occupied by Ling Yao. It seems that he wants to grow stronger and stronger so as to attack Lancheng from both sides!" Bai Xin said, looking at the city area in the distance.
Li Ze nodded in agreement: "It's possible. If he finds an opportunity, he can trap Ye Qi to death in Lancheng. Then, in Beijing, he can find a way to take action!"
Bai Xin heard this with a cold look in his eyes: "We have arrived in Lancheng, so we need to find a way to solve the food and grass problem first. If a war really breaks out, if Ancheng, the logistics area, cannot supply food in time, then we will be like fish on the chopping board."
"Indeed!" Li Ze agreed.
As the two were talking, a rifle appeared in front of Bai Xin.
"Little rifle!" Bai Xin squatted down and rubbed its head. This little dog was very powerful. It followed Ye Qi in the vanguard all the way and didn't feel tired at all. It was really impressive.
When Li Ze saw the person coming, he consciously retreated to the back with Mo Tian to talk.
Seeing Ye Qiyi coming in front of her, she stood up and looked at him, feeling reluctant to leave.
The two of them had very little time to meet after traveling for months. Bai Xin had to treat an emergency in the army with Liu Zhi, while Ye Qi had to deal with camp affairs. They were both busy with their own things, and today they had to rest here for a day or two and prepare food and fodder before they could catch their breath.
"Do you feel tired?" Ye Qi looked at her and asked with concern. Her face was clearly filled with fatigue.
"Not bad!" Bai Xin said to him with a smile. He also had an untidy beard on his face, and it seemed that he hadn't groomed himself properly for some time.
"We will reach Lancheng in one day. There is a villa there and you can have a good rest then!" Ye Qi looked at her with heartache and reluctance.
"Okay!" Bai Xin nodded slightly. It would be a protracted battle in Lancheng, and it would be much more convenient to have a separate hospital.
"Is that the Southern Liang Kingdom over there?" Bai Xin asked, pointing to a small town at the foot of a mountain.
"Yes!" Ye Qi nodded, then pointed to a village not far from Ancheng and said, "Behind the village in front is the only way to the Southern Liang Kingdom."
"Does the Kingdom of Nanliang have a city bordering Xichang?" Bai Xin continued to ask.
"Yes!" Ye Qi nodded.
"If the two countries collude, won't you be vulnerable to attacks from both sides?" Bai Xin said with some concern.
"It's okay. Nanliang can't become a big deal. They are just small-time villains who can only do some sneaky things!" Ye Qi smiled at her and explained:
"They want to rely on Xichang, but they are afraid that Xichang will break its promise and swallow them up in one fell swoop!"
"So he is now caught in the middle, making some small noises! When we take control of Xichang one day, we will get rid of him together with him!"
After listening to Ye Qi's explanation, Bai Xin nodded in understanding, but the national strength of Xichang was comparable to that of the Dome, so it was not easy to deal with it.
Qiongding and Xichang must have fought many times, attacking and defending their own cities. Ye Qi went to the battlefield when he was a teenager, and he had already annexed many of the surrounding small countries, or made them vassal states of Qiongding, and had formed a siege on Xichang. Therefore, Xichang was now a bit desperate and often launched harassment.
As they were talking, it was almost dark.
"General, Madam, the food is ready, you can eat now!" Xier came over and said.
Min'er is now helping her prepare medical equipment in the medical tent. Min'er feels that it is inconvenient at the border, and she has to take care of the general and his wife's food and daily life, so she plans to ask the other three maids to come and serve them.
Bai Xin had no choice but to bring Xier out. After all, the family clinic still needed someone to take care of it. Now that she was out, there was no one to tell her if there was anything happening in the capital, so the two girls stayed reluctantly.
"You can eat by yourself today. I need to go back to the tent to discuss some matters. I just came to see you to put your mind at ease!" Ye Qi looked at her reluctantly.
"Okay!" Although Bai Xin was reluctant, he knew that military affairs could not be delayed, so he did not insist on keeping him.
"Then I'm leaving!" Ye Qi reached out and touched her face and said, then he grabbed his rifle and walked quickly towards the front camp.
Bai Xin looked at his back, swallowed the tears that were about to overflow, took a deep breath, and said to Xier: Let's go, call Miner, and have dinner first.
After dinner, Bai Xin sat in front of the medical tent, staring at the starry sky in a daze.
"Princess, you should rest early. You have been traveling all day!" said Min'er.
"Well, I'll watch the moon for a while and then go to rest. You guys should go and rest first, especially you, Xier. It's your first time going out with me and you have to walk such a long way. I'm sure you must be exhausted!" Bai Xin said to Xier.
"Princess, I'm not tired. I'm so happy to follow you out, how can I be tired!" Xier said with a little excitement.
In the past few years, the princess was often away from the villa, and she was unable to serve her, which made her very sad. Now that she can go out with the princess, she is happy but tired.
Bai Xin smiled at her and was about to say something when he heard dogs barking in a village not far away. Then he heard the sound of rifles coming from the front camp. Bai Xin frowned, thinking that something must have happened in the village.
