Chapter 321 The Battle for Equity
Chapter 321 The Battle for Equity
"so!"
"If you want to solve a problem, you can't be completely clueless about where the problem lies, can you?"
I looked at Song Yafei.
"I need to get a feel for the original equity structure before I go to the company this afternoon."
Song Yafei nodded slightly.
"Okay, let's find Assistant Luo first."
"He knows all the ins and outs of the company perfectly well."
I had just arrived at the company in the afternoon when there was a knock on the office door.
Assistant Luo pushed the door open and came in. His brows were furrowed, like a twisted rope, clearly indicating that he had something on his mind.
"Mr. Song, Mr. Zhang."
He nodded to both of us first.
"Assistant Luo, please have a seat."
Song Yafei pointed to the sofa next to her.
"What exactly is the company's current situation? Tell me the most important things."
Assistant Luo sat down as instructed, his expression quite serious.
"Mr. Song, the most urgent thing right now is money."
"The stock has hit its daily limit down. Several projects are waiting for funding, and the rumors circulating outside are very unfavorable to us."
He paused, as if remembering something even more troublesome, and added a sentence.
"What's even more troublesome is that... recently someone leaked the information about the new project we're working on to 'Hongtu Technology'."
"Grand plans?"
"There's also a mole within the organization." My brows furrowed as well.
"How's the investigation into Director Zhang's case going?"
"It's already under investigation. Director Zhang was wronged, but the other party is quite clean and discreet. It will probably take some effort to find them."
"Continue the investigation"
Song Yafei tapped her fingers on the table, making a clicking sound.
"There are actually not many people who have access to that core information, and we are narrowing down the search. In addition, we are also checking recent email correspondence, print records, and server access logs."
Assistant Luo's logic was fairly clear.
"I'll give you three more days!"
Song Yafei's voice was noticeably more urgent, and her tone was a bit higher.
"If Hongtu gets their product out before us, all the manpower and resources we've invested in the early stages will be wasted!"
"This... I'll go check right away!" Assistant Luo turned and left.
"Don't panic," I said. "We have to take things one step at a time."
"Let's get started on the money. Make a list of all the projects we're working on, calculate how much we've invested, how much we can get back, and what the expectations are for each one. Those that are clearly money-losing projects, or those that we can't see any returns in the short term, stop them for now and cut them if necessary."
"Keeping the cash on hand is the top priority."
Song Yafei snapped out of her daze and immediately continued the conversation.
"That's right. We need to stop the bleeding and bandage the wound before we can figure out how to win the next battle."
"The investigation into the mole must not stop, and we must be even more careful not to alert the snake."
"Yes, catch them from both sides."
I turned to look at Song Yafei, and she instinctively shrank back.
"Yafei, this time is different."
"We're in the same boat now. No matter how big the storm, I won't act like I used to..."
I didn't finish my sentence; she just looked at me quietly.
A few seconds later, the corners of his mouth twitched slightly upwards. His expression was somewhat complicated, but more than anything, it showed his inherent unwillingness to admit defeat.
"Zhang Tian, I believe in you."
That familiar feeling seemed to have returned all of a sudden.
Her words warmed my heart and made me feel very reassured.
“Okay, we need to start with these shareholders and check their investment portfolios.”
“Yes!” Yafei agreed. “I will inform the board of directors tomorrow to review the equity structure and reassess the value and risks of investment projects.”
Seeing Song Yafei regain her decisive and efficient state, I knew in my heart that she truly considered me one of her own.
This feeling is quite rare, and I have to seize it; I can't afford to mess it up again.
That evening, Song Yafei called Assistant Luo over again, and the three of us sat around the low coffee table and laid out Song Dehai's file.
Assistant Luo kept rattling off numbers: who owns what percentage of the equity? Which investment project exceeded the budget by how much, and who made the investment decision?
Song Yafei listened intently, interrupting him from time to time with increasingly tricky and pointed questions.
"That 'Green Island' project, I remember when it was first launched, the expectations were quite high, right? How come the rate of return is so low now?"
"The main problem was the promotion costs. We went way over budget and spent a lot of money, but the market response was lukewarm and we didn't achieve the expected results."
Assistant Luo spoke while quickly flipping through the documents in his hand.
"Who's in charge?"
"It's Director Wang!"
"Why would he do such a losing business?"
"It seems that it was Mrs. Song who insisted on it," Assistant Luo said softly.
"Stop all further investment and only maintain the most basic components. See if it's possible to find a buyer, or simply sell it off as a package deal."
Song Yafei made the decision quickly and decisively.
I also chimed in from time to time, offering my own opinions.
Assistant Luo was buried in his notes next to us, occasionally glancing up at the two of us before quickly looking down again, his pen moving rapidly across the paper.
Before I knew it, it was already late at night.
The impromptu emergency meeting finally came to an end, and all three of them breathed a long sigh of relief.
We all stood up at the same time. Assistant Luo still had a serious expression, while Song Yafei walked to the window.
"I'm scheduling a shareholders' meeting next Wednesday; I want to meet with them."
A moment of silence filled the air before Song Yafei spoke.
"Zhang Tian, you're joining too."
She continued, "Assistant Luo has compiled the shareholders' information, including their affiliated companies, and will send me a copy tomorrow."
"Director Wang now?"
"He's already suspended," Assistant Luo quickly said.
"Tell him to come to my office tomorrow. It's late, you can go home now!"
Assistant Luo packed up the documents and strode towards the door.
I turned my head and saw Song Yafei looking out the window. Her profile seemed softer than before.
"Thank you, thank you for trusting me again."
I reached out and stroked her back, gently guiding her to face me.
"It's nice to be with you like this," she said, looking at me tenderly. "It really is nice."
I didn't say anything, but took her hand; this time it was warm.
She moved in wanting to be closer, but then she suddenly said, "I'm going to the hospital tomorrow, to the finance department. You go first."
