Chapter 315 Weakness
Chapter 315 Weakness
The uncooperative little dumpling made Ning Xiaoxi feel even worse. She felt like she had stepped into a swamp and it was difficult to even pull her foot out, let alone walk away.
The cave was completely silent, and although people were coming and going on the street, she still felt a chill in her heart.
There was a strange pressure following her. It wasn't obvious when she first entered the city, but she felt it more strongly when she reached the moat. The pressure disappeared when Tianwei was talking to her, but now it had returned.
As she walked along the main street to the side street of the southern district, a strange light flashed as she stepped out of the main street and into the adjacent street. Ning Xiaoxi clearly saw a formation rune on the main street flicker.
Ning Xiaoxi continued walking, seemingly oblivious to the rune. It seemed the city's security was even tighter than she had imagined. She dared not easily unleash her sensory abilities; even Tuanzi had hidden from her on the Heavenly Street, and now no one else was following her.
The spiritual energy flowed beneath her skin; while her senses couldn't be projected outwards, it enhanced her five senses from within, allowing her to clearly perceive changes within a hundred meters. Although the range was small, it could still be life-saving.
My maternal grandparents' house in the southern part of the city was not large. Only my maternal grandparents lived in the three-courtyard house. My eldest uncle and second uncle had their own houses on the front and back streets respectively, and they did not usually live with my maternal grandparents.
When Ning Xiaoxi arrived outside the house, it was already completely dark. Two lanterns hung on the gate, casting a dim light.
As I turned the corner from the street, I could still hear voices coming from my neighbor's yard.
The Ming family has lived quietly in this area for decades. Their mother was born here, and their two maternal uncles came from here, inheriting their maternal grandfather's principles of honesty and trustworthiness, and building solid and stable businesses. If it weren't for the Ning family's troubles in February, and Ning Xiaoxi's subsequent change of allegiance, the Ming family would still be the low-key wealthy merchants they were.
Ning Xiaoxi stopped in front of the gate. The courtyard was quiet and silent, unlike the lively atmosphere of the neighbors on the left and right. It was as if the place was dead silent.
With a deep and cold expression, Ning Xiaoxi felt the anger in her chest was about to burst forth.
"Click-clack!"
The gate opened from the inside, and a eunuch stepped out, bowing respectfully before Ning Xiaoxi.
"Greetings, Your Excellency. The Third Prince has been waiting for you for quite some time." The slender figure and high-pitched voice of the young eunuch were extremely respectful.
Ning Xiaoxi composed herself the moment the door opened, and nodded with a smile after hearing the eunuch's words, "Thank you for your trouble."
The young eunuch stepped forward and led the way, as if he were in his own mansion.
Looking at his natural demeanor, Ning Xiaoxi truly wondered if she had entered the Third Prince's residence. Walking through the familiar courtyard, the flickering lights of lanterns on the verandas on either side revealed guards hidden in the shadows. In the main building, a large five-room structure, several guards wielding bows and arrows stood openly by the eaves.
Ning Xiaoxi often visited her maternal grandparents' house. The front yard was small and easy to see. As she walked, the guards around her kept a close eye on her.
The young eunuch walked silently and lightly ahead, fulfilling his duty. Ning Xiaoxi maintained a gentle expression; though she didn't smile, she showed no dissatisfaction or resentment.
Inside the main hall, only the third prince sat alone, drinking tea.
After leading Ning Xiaoxi into the hall, the young eunuch turned and left, closing the door behind him.
Ning Xiaoxi didn't look up. She took a few steps forward and stopped when she could see the Third Prince's court boots out of the corner of her eye. She bowed and said, "Ning Xiaoxi, an official of the Heavenly Secrets Bureau, greets the Third Prince."
The third prince remained silent, while Ning Xiaoxi bowed and remained still.
The time it takes to drink a cup of tea is fleeting. Ning Xiaoxi remained still, but she could hear the sounds of guards moving outside the door.
"Ugh!" came the sound, Ning Xiaoxi suddenly turned around and opened the door. She punched a guard in the jaw, sending him flying. She raised her right leg and swept it to the other side, directly hitting another guard in the waist and breaking his arm. He also flew backward along the ground.
With her hands gently supporting the old woman's arms, Ning Xiaoxi looked at the Third Prince sitting upright in the room with a grim expression.
Several guards drew their swords and surrounded Ning Xiaoxi and the old woman.
"Xiao Xi!" The old woman grabbed Ning Xiao Xi's hands with trembling hands, her voice hoarse and choked with sobs.
Ning Xiaoxi smiled slightly at the old woman, "Grandmother, it's nothing."
"It's getting late, the old lady can rest now." The third prince's voice was calm, echoing in the courtyard filled with people.
Ning Xiaoxi helped the old woman up, "Grandmother, let me help you inside to rest!"
The old woman's eyes were filled with tears, but she forced a smile and patted Ning Xiaoxi's hand, saying, "Good, good." Then she turned and walked towards the east wing. Ning Xiaoxi followed her grandmother, protecting her as she entered the wing.
The moment she opened the door to the side room, she saw her maternal grandfather and eldest uncle sitting inside.
"Grandmother, it's windy today. Remember to keep the door closed and don't catch a cold." Ning Xiaoxi escorted her grandmother into the side room, glanced at her grandfather and uncle who had stood up, and said, "Xiaoxi greets grandfather and uncle. It's getting late. We'll catch up again tomorrow." With that, she gently closed the door.
Turning back to the main hall, as he passed the two guards being helped by others, his eyes sharpened. They were not Taoist masters, they had no spiritual power, they were just ordinary guards.
Returning to the hall, one could still see the court boots and bow in greeting.
"I was so happy to hear of your return today that I came to the Ming residence without even having dinner!" The Third Prince Xia Zhiyin's voice remained indifferent.
Ning Xiaoxi couldn't tell whether the person speaking to her was Xia Zhiyin or Hou Qing. "The city gate officer informed me of the Third Prince's whereabouts. After hearing this, I rushed to the palace to find him, but when I arrived outside the palace, I learned that the Third Prince did not live in the inner city."
"Ning Xiaoxi." Xia Zhiyin's voice turned cold. He leaned forward, resting his hands on his knees. "I gave you a month, and you tried to bargain with me. I told you to wait for me to change the prescription, and you just disappeared. Do you really not respect me, the Third Prince?"
Ning Xiaoxi was startled. Since she last contacted Xia Zhiyin, the mask had not made any further contact! "Third Prince, I have been trying to find a way to fix the shortcomings of some items in the recipe, and I have been waiting for your message, but I really haven't received any contact from the mask!" After saying that, she directly showed the ten masks.
The ten suspended, luminous white masks shone brightly.
Xia Zhiyin stood up, his tall and imposing figure even more imposing than when he was wearing the mask!
The ten masks clearly sensed Xia Zhiyin's presence and spontaneously began to circle around him. Even though nine of the masks lacked facial features, their excitement was still easily palpable.
Ning Xiaoxi couldn't help but complain, "An ungrateful wretch who can't be tamed."
