Chapter 103 Raging Waves and a Mysterious Appearance
The woman in black robes, the man in white, and Ling'er stood on the stone platform, their hearts pounding in their chests as they watched the violently churning water. Wave after wave crashed against the stone platform, each impact causing it to tremble slightly. The splashing water rained down on them, icy cold, as if trying to extinguish the last vestiges of warmth they had left.
Ling'er clung tightly to the woman in black robes, her body trembling uncontrollably. She buried her face in the woman's chest, unable to bear the sight of the raging, terrifying scene. She was terrified; the muffled roar, like the howl of a demon, echoed in her ears. She could only silently pray that it would all end soon, that they could escape this calamity once more.
The woman in black robes held Ling'er tightly, her eyes fixed warily on the water's surface, her heart filled with worry and helplessness. She knew their situation was extremely perilous; their spiritual energy was severely depleted, and facing this terrifying being emerging from the depths, their chances of victory were slim. Yet, how could she give up so easily? She had to protect Ling'er no matter what, even at the cost of her own life. Gritting her teeth, she silently encouraged herself, gripping her sword even tighter. The patterns on the hilt hurt her palms, but they only strengthened her resolve and made her more clear-headed.
The man in white frowned, veins bulging on his forehead. He stared intently at the water, trying to discern the monster about to appear from the surging waves and increasingly clear roars. His jade flute was poised to fire; though his spiritual energy was dwindling, he was determined to exert all his strength, searching for any glimmer of hope. He knew the events triggered by the bead were far too bizarre, and the current crisis was likely more severe than ever before. But now, he had no choice but to face it head-on.
With a deafening roar, a colossal figure burst forth from the water. It was a colossal beast resembling a dragon, its body covered in dark blue-green scales, each scale shimmering with a cold luster in the water's reflection, like an impenetrable suit of armor. Its head was enormous, its eyes like two burning flames, radiating endless ferocity. Its gaping maw was filled with sharp fangs, and the breath it exhaled carried a strong, pungent stench that made one want to vomit.
The giant beast raised its head high, looking down at the three people on the stone platform, and roared again. The roar seemed to have a real impact, making their ears ring and almost causing them to lose their balance.
"What...what kind of monster is this? How can it be so terrifying!" The woman in black robes stared wide-eyed, her voice trembling slightly, but the sword in her hand remained firmly pointed at the giant beast, showing no sign of backing down.
Ling'er was so frightened that she burst into tears, her cries sounding especially helpless in the tense atmosphere. The man in white took a deep breath and shouted to the woman in black, "You protect Ling'er, I'll try to lure it away and see if I can find its weakness!" With that, he played his jade flute. Although the spiritual energy in the music he played was not as abundant as usual, it still transformed into several beams of light that shot towards the giant beast, attempting to attract its attention.
Seeing the attack approaching, the giant beast angrily swung its tail. The thick tail, carrying overwhelming force, easily dispersed the spiritual energy wave, and then pounced on the man in white. The man in white hurriedly dodged to the side, narrowly avoiding the fatal blow. However, the giant beast was extremely agile. After missing its target, it immediately turned and continued its attack, giving the man in white no chance to catch his breath.
Seeing the white-clad man in danger, the woman in black was frantic. She settled Ling'er in a corner of the stone platform, telling her not to wander off, then charged towards the giant beast with her sword, slashing at its side. However, the sword struck the beast's scales, only producing a few sparks, unable to cause any real damage. Instead, it enraged the beast, which turned its head and opened its jaws to bite at the woman in black.
The woman in black robes was shocked and quickly leaped backward, but she was still hit by the beast's breath and was thrown back, crashing heavily onto the edge of the stone platform, a trickle of blood spilling from the corner of her mouth.
"Sister!" Ling'er cried out as she saw the beast, wanting to run over, but she was afraid of it and could only anxiously call out from the corner.
Seeing the woman in black injured, the man in white was frantic with worry. While dodging the giant beast's attacks, he pondered a solution. Suddenly, he remembered reading about dragon-like behemoths in a book. Although these beasts had incredibly hard scales all over their bodies, their bellies were relatively soft, and perhaps that was their weakness.
Seizing the opportunity, the man in white, taking advantage of the moment when the giant beast lunged at the woman in black again, charged towards the beast's belly. His jade flute transformed into a sharp blade of light, and he thrust it with all his might towards the beast's abdomen. The beast seemed to sense the danger and tried to dodge, but it was too late. The blade pierced its belly, not too deeply, but it still roared in pain. The roar echoed throughout the water, causing the surrounding waves to surge even more violently.
The behemoth was utterly enraged. It writhed wildly, its massive claws flailing haphazardly, leaving the entire stone platform in a chaotic mess. The woman in black struggled to her feet and, together with the man in white, began to fend off the behemoth from either side. However, their spiritual energy was nearly depleted, and their movements grew increasingly sluggish. If this continued, they would eventually be torn to shreds by the behemoth.
Just as they were feeling despair, the spot on the stone platform where the box had been placed suddenly lit up with multicolored light again. The bead slowly floated up, its light growing increasingly intense, and it shot towards the giant beast. Sensing the power of the bead, a hint of fear flashed in the giant beast's eyes. It tried to dodge, but it seemed to be frozen in place, unable to move.
The light from the bead enveloped the giant beast, which struggled and roared within it. However, the light seemed to possess a magical binding force, gradually weakening it. Its massive body slowly sank to the bottom of the water, and the waves gradually subsided.
The three of them breathed a sigh of relief and slumped onto the stone platform, overwhelmed with joy at surviving such a close call. But before they could even recover, the bead, after subduing the giant beast, flew towards Ling'er and instantly merged into her body. Ling'er's eyes widened, and then she fainted.
"Ling'er!" The woman in black robes and the man in white cried out and rushed over, anxiously checking on Ling'er's condition. But Ling'er lay there quietly, unresponsive.
What will happen when this bead enters Ling'er's body? Will Ling'er wake up safely? And does this mysterious water realm hide other unknown dangers? Everything remains unknown; their fate is still shrouded in mystery, awaiting further developments to reveal the answers…
