Chapter 86 Family Gathering Opens

Chapter 86 Family Gathering Opens

Three days later, the family gathering took place as scheduled. The venue was a luxurious estate on the outskirts of the city, a place of beautiful scenery, surrounded by dense forests, offering a high degree of privacy, which perfectly met the family's requirements for the occasion.

After arriving, Lin Chuyue and Gu Yanchuan were arranged to stay in the same villa. Although the two had already tacitly agreed to each other, they still maintained the tacit understanding that an engaged couple should have in front of everyone.

That evening, a welcome banquet was held at the manor. The hall was brightly lit, and guests dressed in gorgeous attire gathered in twos and threes to chat, their clinking glasses revealing the sophistication and aloofness of high-end socializing.

Lin Chuyue, holding a glass of champagne, stood in a corner observing the crowd. Her gaze inadvertently swept over Gu Yanchuan, noticing him talking with several elders, his expression gentle and polite.

"Gu Yanchuan's disguise is truly impeccable." Lin Chuyue chuckled inwardly, then looked away, but almost bumped into someone as she turned around.

"Miss Lin, it seems you're not paying attention today." A deep voice came from behind. Lin Chuyue looked up and saw that it was Li Zhanchuan standing in front of her.

"President Li?" Lin Chuyue raised an eyebrow slightly. "What are you doing here?"

Li Zhanchuan held his wine glass, a slight smile playing on his lips: "Why can't I attend Miss Lin and Mr. Gu's family gathering? After all, we have a business relationship."

"I see." Lin Chuyue smiled, her gaze sweeping across Li Zhanchuan's shoulder to the other end of the hall, as if searching for something.

Li Zhanchuan keenly noticed her absent-mindedness and narrowed his eyes slightly: "Who are you looking for?"

"It's nothing," Lin Chuyue replied casually, and was about to leave when Li Zhanchuan stopped her.

“Miss Lin,” Li Zhanchuan said in a low voice, his tone serious, “Whatever you’re planning, remember, I’m here for you.”

Lin Chuyue was slightly taken aback, looking up to meet Li Zhanchuan's deep eyes, a ripple stirring in her heart. But she quickly composed herself and smiled faintly, "Thank you for your kindness, Mr. Li. However, I can handle my own affairs."

Li Zhanchuan didn't say anything more. He watched Lin Chuyue turn and leave, his gaze deep and complex, as if he was pondering something.

On the other side, Gu Yanchuan had just finished talking with his elders when Luo Yurou quietly pulled him aside.

"Mr. Gu, can you walk with me for a bit?" Luo Yurou blinked, her tone carrying a hint of coquetry.

Gu Yanchuan smiled slightly: "Of course."

The two walked side by side out of the banquet hall and into the manor's garden. The garden was quiet and romantic at night, and the soft streetlights cast a warm glow on them, adding to the cozy atmosphere.

"You must be very busy today?" Luo Yurou asked softly, her tone full of concern.

“Family activities are always like this,” Gu Yanchuan replied casually, but his gaze fell on Luo Yurou’s face. “However, seeing you makes being busy seem less annoying.”

Luo Yurou was taken aback, then gave a shy smile: "Mr. Gu's words make me feel a little embarrassed."

“You don’t need to be embarrassed.” Gu Yanchuan’s tone was gentle. “Yu Rou, I find that I can always relax when I’m with you.”

Luo Yurou lowered her eyes, a slight ripple stirring in her heart. She wasn't sure if Gu Yanchuan's words had a deeper meaning, but she clearly sensed that his attitude towards her was becoming increasingly affectionate.

Back at the villa, Lin Chuyue sat on the balcony, quietly gazing at the distant night view. Her conversation with Li Zhanchuan had left her with mixed feelings.

She never imagined she would develop such subtle feelings for a man, but Li Zhanchuan's appearance did indeed stir some ripples in her heart.

"Lin Chuyue, what are you thinking about?" she said to herself in a low voice, then took out her notebook and began to list out the details of her plan to break off the engagement.

Gu Yanchuan returned from outside and saw Lin Chuyue on the balcony. He walked over and asked, "It's so late, aren't you going to rest?"

"I'm thinking of a plan." Lin Chuyue looked up at him. "Tomorrow we need to test the family's attitude."

Gu Yanchuan nodded and took the notebook from her hand: "Don't overwork yourself. We're partners, let's solve this together."

Lin Chuyue smiled slightly, a warm feeling welling up in her heart. This feeling of fighting side by side made the relationship between her and Gu Yanchuan clearer and clearer—there was indeed no love between them, but there was an unbreakable revolutionary friendship.
