Chapter 130 Li Zhanchuan's Protection
Chapter 130 Li Zhanchuan's Protection
As night fell, the city's neon lights cast dappled shadows on the glass windows. Lin Chuyue's office remained brightly lit, the documents spread out on her desk appearing both chaotic and organized. Lin Chuyue sat in her swivel chair, her slender fingers gripping a black pen tightly, constantly highlighting key points on the data tables. Her expression was focused, and even the outside noise couldn't disturb her.
The air conditioner hummed softly, and the rustling of papers was exceptionally clear in the quiet room. Suddenly, a deep male voice came from the doorway, as if breaking the silence:
"Chuyue, aren't you going home yet?"
His voice was calm and cool, yet it carried a hint of concern.
Lin Chuyue looked up, paused for a moment, and then saw Li Zhanchuan standing in the doorway. His figure was shrouded in the boundary between light and shadow, his face deep and cold. Without his suit jacket, he appeared less formal, but more casual and approachable. His shirt sleeves were casually rolled up to his elbows, revealing a section of his toned forearm, and his well-defined hands were holding two steaming cups of coffee.
Lin Chuyue frowned slightly, her tone tinged with surprise:
"Zhanchuan? What are you doing here so late?"
Li Zhanchuan strode into the room, his movements composed and elegant. He placed one of the coffee cups beside Lin Chuyue, glanced down at the pile of documents in front of her, and spoke with a hint of displeasure:
"You've been busy all day, are you planning to sleep in the office tonight?"
Lin Chuyue chuckled at his words, put down her pen, and picked up her coffee. The warmth seeped through the cup, dispelling some of her fatigue. She took a sip, the familiar bitterness and aroma spreading in her mouth. She raised an eyebrow at Li Zhanchuan:
"He specially brought me coffee? Mr. Li, you're being way too thoughtful."
Li Zhanchuan's lips curled slightly upwards, but his gaze held a hint of scrutiny:
“I’m worried about your health because you’ve been staying up so late lately.”
He bent down and casually tidied up the documents next to her chair into a stack, his expression unconsciously becoming serious.
"Are these documents related to Shen Fang?"
Lin Chuyue's heart trembled slightly, but she didn't show it, only nodding gently:
"A small discovery, but not conclusive enough."
Li Zhanchuan's brows furrowed slightly, and a sharper look appeared in his eyes.
“I’ve had her movements monitored. Although she’s abroad, she still has a lot of spies in the country. You’re carrying too much on your own; you might as well let me handle some things.”
Lin Chuyue was momentarily stunned. She was no stranger to Li Zhanchuan's concern, but the certainty and protectiveness in his tone still caught her off guard.
"I can handle it," she said softly, her tone firm but tinged with weariness.
Li Zhanchuan stood up straight, looking down at her, his hands in his pockets, his voice deep:
“I know you can handle it, but that doesn’t mean you have to bear it all alone.”
The room fell silent for a moment, filled with the aroma of coffee. Lin Chuyue's fingers tightened slightly as she held the cup, seemingly trying to conceal her emotional turmoil.
"Thank you, Zhanchuan," she whispered, her eyes softening as she looked up.
Li Zhanchuan's eyes flickered slightly, then returned to their usual composure. He turned and walked to the window, gazing at the myriad lights outside, his voice low and slow:
If one day you feel tired, don't forget that I'll always be here for you.
Lin Chuyue stared blankly at his back, a slight tremor stirring within her heart.
