Chapter 246 Choice in the Dark
Chapter 246 Choice in the Dark
After returning to her room, Lin Chuyue felt completely drained. Leaning against the door, she slowly closed her eyes. Li Zhanchuan's words kept swirling in her mind, like tightly locked shackles, making it hard for her to breathe.
What is he hiding? Why does he always use "protection" as an excuse to brush her off?
She disliked this feeling, as if she were trapped in an elaborate scheme, and even if she were reborn, she still couldn't truly control her own destiny.
The room was silent. The night outside the window was pitch black, with only the faint rustling of leaves in the wind in the distance. Lin Chuyue walked to the window, gazing at the night view, her thoughts churning.
After her rebirth, she had been carefully planning her moves, thinking she had the situation under control. But now she realized that some of the game was no longer within her control.
She looked down at the phone in her hand, her fingers tightening slightly.
If she cannot rely on Li Zhanchuan, then she can only rely on herself.
She took a deep breath and dialed a number.
"Hello?" A deep voice came from the other end of the phone, tinged with drowsiness and alertness.
"It's me." Lin Chuyue's voice was calm and firm. "Let's meet."
"Now?" The other party was clearly surprised.
"Yes, now." Lin Chuyue glanced at the time; it was already 11 p.m., but she knew she wouldn't be able to sleep peacefully tonight and needed to figure some things out as soon as possible.
The other party was silent for a few seconds, then said in a low voice, "Okay, see you at the usual place."
Lin Chuyue hung up the phone, quickly changed into a low-key outfit, and then quietly left the villa.
Meeting in the Night
Half an hour later, Lin Chuyue arrived at a secluded private club.
This was a secret hideout she had arranged long ago, specifically for meetings that couldn't be held in public. The club's decor was understated yet luxurious, with private rooms all around to ensure that the conversations wouldn't be disturbed by outsiders.
She pushed open the door to the private room, and a man was already sitting on the sofa, holding a glass of red wine, leaning back lazily, looking at her calmly.
"It's so late, and you're suddenly contacting me. Something important must have happened, right?" The man put down his wine glass, his eyes flickering slightly, revealing a hint of amusement and inquiry.
Lin Chuyue sat down opposite him, tapping her fingers lightly on the table, her voice calm and unhurried: "I need your help."
The man raised an eyebrow: "Oh? Miss Lin, you actually need my help sometimes?"
Lin Chuyue ignored his teasing and said directly, "I want you to help me investigate something."
"What is it?" The man's eyes finally turned serious.
Lin Chuyue looked at him intently and said, word by word, "Li Zhanchuan."
The man's expression changed slightly, then he smiled and said, "You've become suspicious of him?"
Lin Chuyue did not answer directly, but calmly said, "He has been hiding a lot of things, and I don't like being kept in the dark."
The man narrowed his eyes slightly, seemingly deep in thought. After a moment, he tapped the table lightly and whispered, "Lin Chuyue, are you sure you want to investigate Li Zhanchuan?"
Lin Chuyue's gaze was firm: "Yes."
The man chuckled, but his eyes held no smile, instead conveying a profound meaning: "You should know that he is not a simple person. Investigating him might put you in even greater danger."
Lin Chuyue chuckled softly, her tone cold: "I'm already in danger, what difference does one more thing make?"
The man stared at her for a few seconds, then shrugged. "Alright, since you insist, I can help you investigate, but..." He paused, a slight smile playing on his lips, "the price this time won't be small."
Lin Chuyue's eyes remained calm: "I can afford it."
The man smiled, raised his wine glass, and gently swirled the red wine: "Alright, then let's have a pleasant collaboration."
Lin Chuyue didn't drink. She simply stood up, looked at the man, and said calmly, "I hope to get results as soon as possible."
The man smiled slightly, a meaningful glint in his eyes: "Don't worry, I won't keep you waiting too long."
Lin Chuyue nodded and turned to leave.
In the darkness, her shadow was stretched long by the streetlights, her whole body enveloped in a cool, shadowy light.
This step was incredibly heavy, but she knew she had no way back.
