Chapter 215 Trouble Ensues (2)
Chapter 215 Trouble Ensues (2)
Tong Shili's expression froze for a moment, then she put on an innocent look again, "Maybe Young Master Ou really did remember wrong."
Ou Luhan didn't mince words. Who Tong Shili liked was her business. If she hadn't insisted on asking him to bring her along, he wouldn't have bothered. Her meaning was clear: she wanted to see who the woman who had captured Chi Moqing's heart was, and what charm she possessed that could make Chi Moqing so devoted.
Tong Shili picked up her wine glass and took a small sip: "It seems that Young Master Ou intends to be a gentleman and help others achieve their goals?"
Ou Luhan narrowed her eyes and warned, "If I were Shili, I would never want to lay a finger on Yan Zuozuo, because the consequences would be unbearable for you."
"Is Young Master Ou threatening me?" Tong Shili swirled the bright red wine in her glass; the bloody color made her feel very uncomfortable.
“No, this is just a friendly reminder.” Ou Luhan smiled coldly, her eyes filled with a chilling intensity as she looked at Tong Shili.
Tong Shili shrugged: "Then thank you, Third Young Master Ou. However, I, Tong Shili, will absolutely stop at nothing to get what I want!"
Ou Luhan's face darkened: "I just took it as a joke."
Tong Shili giggled, then reverted to her innocent demeanor, "I was just joking, Third Brother, please don't take it personally."
Ou Luhan smiled but remained silent, though a dark and unfathomable light flashed in her eyes.
In the restroom, Meng Xinyu glared at Yan Zuozuo through gritted teeth, "Yan Zuozuo, you've gone too far! You're already married to my cousin, yet you're still entangled with Young Master Ou!"
Yan Zuozuo was taken aback: "Don't talk nonsense, when did I..."
However, before she could finish speaking, Meng Xinyu angrily interrupted her, "I'm talking nonsense? Young Master Ou has already confessed to me, and you still want to hide it? Yan Zuozuo, how can you be so shameless, messing around outside behind my cousin's back!"
Meng Xinyu spoke righteously, but in her heart she hated Yan Zuozuo for always being so popular with men. Her cousin was so outstanding, yet he fell in love with her; even the Third Young Master Ou was so remarkable, yet he was bewitched by her. She simply wanted to kill Yan Zuozuo.
Yan Zuozuo frowned, looking at her angry expression, and couldn't help but frown as well, "What did Young Master Ou say to you?"
"What, feeling guilty? I knew you'd been so kind as to bring me along, you just wanted to see me make a fool of myself. Fine, you win, you just wait, I won't let this go so easily!" Meng Xinyu shoved Yan Zuozuo hard and stomped out in her high heels.
Yan Zuozuo felt baffled. She washed her hands, completely unaware of what Ou Luhan had just said to Meng Xinyu that had caused her to erupt in anger. She took a deep breath, patted her face, and then walked towards the private room.
Meng Xinyu was already sitting next to Ou Luhan, still looking shy and demure, a stark contrast to her earlier anger. She pursed her lips without speaking, but she had lost all appetite.
The meal wasn't very pleasant. Ou Luhan offered to take them home, but Yan Zuozuo refused, saying, "Thank you for your kindness, Third Young Master Ou, but I have some things to do later. I can take a taxi myself. Please take my cousin home."
Ou Luhan glanced at Meng Xinyu, his brows furrowing almost imperceptibly. He had absolutely no interest in this infatuated girl. However, he, the Third Young Master Ou, would never do anything to offend a beautiful woman. So he smiled and said, "Then be careful, I will definitely not fail in my mission."
Yan Zuozuo nodded and left in a taxi.
As soon as she entered the military compound, she heard laughter from inside the house, as if Chi Ran and Lu Zhitu had arrived. She changed her shoes and went in, smiling as she asked, "Mom, what's the matter? Why are you so happy?"
"Zuo Zuo is back, come and sit down." Mother Chi grinned and quickly waved to her. "I have something to tell you, Xiao Ran is getting married to Zhi Tu. We're discussing the wedding arrangements right now, come and take a look."
"Okay." Yan Zuozuo sat down next to Chi's mother, smiling at Chi Ran and Lu Zhitu. "Congratulations! If there's anything I can help you with, just let me know."
"Thank you, sister-in-law." Xiao Ran and Lu Zhitu exchanged a glance, looking unusually shy. Chi Ran had pursued Lu Zhitu for so many years and tormented him for quite some time, and now that they were finally getting married, she was genuinely happy for them.
After thinking for a moment, Chi's mother took Yan Zuozuo's hand and said, "Zuozuo, quickly show your mother which of these two wedding invitations looks better."
Yan Zuozuo took it and looked at it, then compared it and said, "This one is beautiful. It symbolizes a happy marriage and growing old together. What a wonderful meaning."
"Okay, this one will do." Mother Chi chuckled and then asked Yan Zuozuo to help her choose other things. She was clearly in a good mood.
Just as they were talking about the wedding banquet, the phone rang at home. Chi's mother quickly answered it, and no one knew what the other person said, but her face grew increasingly pale, and finally turned gloomy.
"Sister, isn't it unfair of you to say that? I know my own daughter-in-law's personality very well. But you've spoiled Xinyu all these years. Shouldn't you do something about it?" Chi's mother said in a cold tone.
After saying something on the other end of the phone, Chi's mother's voice immediately rose an octave, "Xinyu is Zuozuo's cousin. How can you just say things like that without any basis? After what happened last time, do you think Xinyu would have come back so quickly if Zuozuo hadn't pleaded for her? People should know how to be grateful... You don't need to say anything more. I don't believe our Zuozuo would do such a thing... If I don't have anything else to say, that's all. I'm very busy right now..." After saying that, Chi's mother hung up the phone forcefully.
"Mom?" Chi Ran glanced at her angry mother and asked cautiously, "What happened? Could it be that my innocent cousin has gotten into trouble again?"
Chi's mother glanced at her without saying anything, then looked at Yan Zuozuo and said, "Zuozuo, tell me the truth. What's going on with that Third Young Master Ou? Xinyu cried and said that you and Third Young Master Ou had an unclear relationship and that you were ganging up on her."
Yan Zuozuo was stunned, utterly speechless. She opened her mouth to speak, when Chi Ran slapped her forehead, "My God, sister-in-law, how dare you provoke that 'Heavenly Soldier Cousin'? She's the embodiment of trouble! You really have guts!"
Yan Zuozuo smiled awkwardly, briefly explained the situation, and finally said with distress, "I meant well at first, I never expected it to turn out like this." She didn't have any relatives before, and now that a relative has suddenly appeared, she really doesn't know how to get along with them.
Chi Ran was utterly impressed by Si Yan Zuozuo. She reached out and grabbed her hand tightly, her expression indescribable. "Sister-in-law, let me tell you, you can mess with anyone in the world, but you can't mess with Cousin Xinyu. She's such a troublemaker. You're so fearless, I admire you!"
Yan Zuozuo smiled helplessly, unsure of what to say for a moment. Then she heard Chi Ran continue, "Now that you've offended your cousin, it's the same as offending your aunt. You'll be in for a rough time later. Take care."
Yan Zuozuo was dumbfounded. What did this mean?
"Xiao Ran, that's your aunt!" Although Chi's mother also felt that her sister was spoiling Meng Xinyu too much, she was still a relative and she was not happy to see her children disrespecting her.
Yan Zuozuo lowered her head: "Mom, I'm sorry, I think I've caused you trouble again..."
"Don't talk about trouble or not, it's not your fault." Mother Chi tightened her grip on her hand, then said, "Zuo Zuo, it's not that I'm biased towards Xin Yu, but now that you're married to Mo Qing and even have a child, you should at least consider Mo Qing's feelings and what others think. As the saying goes, there's no smoke without fire. If Xin Yu keeps making trouble for you because of Young Master Ou, you definitely bear some responsibility, right?"
Yan Zuozuo was taken aback. Did Chi's mother mean that she already had doubts about her? She felt a little bitter, but still nodded obediently and said, "I understand. I will try my best to keep my distance from Young Master Ou in the future."
"That's good. I don't want to fall out with my relatives because of an outsider. You have to understand your mother."
Yan Zuozuo nodded, enduring all her helplessness and grievances. Chi Ran, however, spoke up, clearly dissatisfied, "Mom, that's my sister-in-law's job. Isn't it inappropriate to say that?"
“What’s wrong with it? Your sister-in-law doesn’t necessarily want to do business with Young Master Ou. Does she really want us to break off our relationship with your aunt?” Chi’s mother said unhappily.
Chi Ran was speechless for a moment. Her mother was always reasonable, and only when facing her only older sister and that unreliable niece would she show such a domineering and unreasonable attitude, which left them helpless. She glanced at Yan Zuozuo sympathetically and gave her a look that said: Take care.
Yan Zuozuo smiled wryly and chatted with them for a while longer until Chi's mother said she was sleepy and going to bed. Only then did she return to her room. She went to check on the baby first; with the nanny there, she went back to her room.
Night fell, and the outside was pitch black except for a few scattered lights. Thinking about the day's events, she couldn't help but sigh. It was already past midnight, and she still couldn't sleep. Looking at the empty bed, devoid of Chi Moqing's warmth, she felt a void in her heart.
The wind outside the window was a bit chilly, and she couldn't help but shiver. She finally closed the window and went back to sleep. But lying in bed, she tossed and turned, unable to fall asleep, her mind filled with thoughts of Chi Moqing, wondering what he was doing.
She reached for her phone, hesitating whether to call him. But worried about disturbing him, she simply stared at their wedding photo on the screen to ease her longing.
She reached out and touched his face in the photo. Was he really that busy? So busy that he hadn't called or texted her all day? It would be a lie to say she wasn't worried. Even just one text would have been enough.
Just as she was lamenting, her phone suddenly rang. Startled, she dropped it, hitting herself squarely on the forehead. Ouch!
She quickly picked up the phone and glanced at the screen; it was Chi Moqing! Her heart pounded with excitement, and she quickly pressed the answer button, "Husband!" She felt her heart race even faster.
Chi Moqing had been on a plane all day and was now in the car on his way to the hotel, feeling exhausted. But upon hearing Yan Zuozuo's voice, the corners of his mouth involuntarily turned up. "Wife, you seem so happy. Could it be that you've been waiting for your husband's call?"
"Yes, you said you'd call me, but I haven't heard from you yet," she admitted frankly, her voice tinged with grievance. This surprised Chi Moqing, who then chuckled softly, "Sorry, I just got off the plane and am on my way to the hotel."
His voice carried a barely perceptible weariness, but Yan Zuozuo still noticed it and felt a pang of heartache. "Then you should go back to the hotel and rest. I won't bother you anymore."
"Wait a minute." Chi Moqing was worried that she would hang up, so he quickly said, "Wife, I haven't arrived at the hotel yet. Can you stay with me a little longer? I want to hear your voice."
Yan Zuozuo's nose suddenly stung with tears, but she still pretended to be cheerful and said, "What does my husband want to hear me say? I'll tell you."
"Tell me what you did today. Did anyone bully you when I wasn't around?" he asked gently.
Yes, she felt really wronged today. But she didn't want him to worry, so she didn't plan to tell him. She just chuckled foolishly, sniffed, and said, "With President Chi protecting me, who dares to bully me?"
Chi Moqing didn't speak, but after a moment of silence, he asked seriously, "Wife, tell the truth!"
Yan Zuozuo felt a chill run down his spine. What did this mean? Did Meng Xinyu also complain to him?
