Chapter 810 - 810: Oasis Pyramid, Pact of Civilization
Chapter 810 - 810: Oasis Pyramid, Pact of Civilization
After disembarking from the aircraft, everyone breathed in the fresh air, and many began to gulp down the clear water from the oasis.Changsun Zhong reminded everyone to sip slowly, but those who had sweated profusely and endured the heat for a while simply ignored him, too thirsty to care.
Only after their bellies were round and full from drinking did they finally stop.
"Are these ancient ruins?" A gleam flashed in Meng Gua's eyes, filled with excitement.
If he could unearth some ancient technology from these ruins, his status might rise even further.
"No, it's the place I've chosen for Ascension." A gentle voice came from afar.
In the distance, a figure approached, and the reflecting light was so intense they could barely keep their eyes open.
"Ascension?" Changsun Zhong's expression was serious; indeed, it was a ritual-related ability.
Upon closer inspection, the figure had dramatically changed, wearing a strange robe, holding a book made entirely of Gold in his left hand, with a semi-illusory golden radiance, like the Sun's glow, floating behind his head.
"That's right, it's Ascension." Wang Linchi looked Changsun Zhong up and down and then asked, "Are you from the future or another timeline?"
Wang Linchi sensed an incongruity in Changsun Zhong, as if he was at odds with the data of this world.
"From another timeline's future," Changsun Zhong didn't mind that Wang Linchi was aware of his situation. Concealing it was pointless; the fact that the question was asked meant Wang Linchi had already deduced part of it.
"Goodness, you gave me a super-sized response," Wang Linchi couldn't help but laugh. This answer indeed surprised him, but it also confirmed something: "The me in other timelines, how is he?"
"Fewer than expected managed to halt the world from entering reincarnation," Changsun Zhong stated calmly.
"Frankly, you don't have any meaningful reason to stop me," Wang Linchi wasn't surprised at all. He was not the only thought, nor the sole source of disaster.
The true Six Paths of Reincarnation and experiments across three thousand worlds were underway, and perhaps already successful.
"I know, but there's no choice. We can't defeat Him with human power. If we can irritate Him enough across multiple timelines, maybe we can gamble on Him abandoning our world out of disgust," said Changsun Zhong powerfully, but his words sounded tragic.
The struggle for survival relies on one's effort; hoping the enemy will leave out of annoyance is absurd, yet it's their only path to survival.
"Enough talk, killing you would solve the problem."
Meng Gua was the first to act, and as soon as he stepped on the ground, his Earth Power Ability naturally returned.
Taking advantage of the conversation, he launched a surprise attack on Wang Linchi.
However, Wang Linchi easily blocked Meng Gua's attack by simply holding up the Gold book.
"Impossible; my Earth Power Ability, how could you block it!" Astonishment filled Meng Gua's eyes; his Earth Power, not even Xu Lan, transformed into the Iron War God, could withstand.
Of course, he didn't know Xu Lan's fate, as he hadn't witnessed that battle.
"Earth Power? Incorrect." Wang Linchi glanced at Meng Gua and then said, "What you call Earth Power essentially forms a unique biological enhancement through a magnetic field, which deactivates once you leave the ground because you can't effectively direct your bioelectricity."
"Therefore, you need to externalize your bioelectricity to avoid conflict between the bioelectricity and the magnetic field-enhanced biology."
"And the ground is a good conduit for that."
With Wang Linchi's explanation, the astonishment in Meng Gua's eyes turned to fury; it was another riddle in a language he couldn't understand.
Just as he was about to act, he suddenly found his body completely limp, collapsing to the ground.
"You still want to fight?" Wang Linchi sighed, "Since I can explain the superficial principles of your ability and its flaws, it means I can counter you."
Meng Gua lost all control over his body, unable to move.
Changsun Zhong quickly used space cutting to pull him back.
Then, with spatial interference, he forcibly severed Wang Linchi's bioelectric conflict imposed on him, thus restoring his self-control.
At this, fear replaced confusion in Meng Gua's eyes. What was happening? How had the world suddenly become so different from his knowledge?
"Dominating a layman doesn't exactly satisfy a vainglorious heart, does it?" Changsun Zhong said with a smile.
Wang Linchi nodded, "True. But it's enjoyable; I like picking on someone my size."
Their exchange left Meng Gua's face dark, suddenly labeled an illiterate.
"Besides, bringing a group of primitives to fight me is no different than sending them to their deaths."
These words caused everyone's face to darken as well.
But, having learned from Meng Gua, no one dared to act rashly.
"I understand your wicked sense of humor, so following the usual practice, shall we wager a bet? Although you typically propose it, I think anyone can." Changsun Zhong suggested.
"Bet on what?" Wang Linchi inquired, curious. He had a taste for such mischief, though not necessarily for gambling. He held disdain for irresponsible gambling and other vices.
Should they bet, he'd surely be the one setting the stakes, influencing the outcome.
It's common sense that the house always wins.
"Everything. If you win, everything in this timeline-world belongs to you."
"If you lose, I will take the remnants of this timeline-world and integrate them into the Human Community, with you unable to interfere," Changsun Zhong stated the terms of the wager.
Wang Linchi considered it; it seemed fair astrategpragmatic choice.
The stakemoreryunmatter of life and death; they die, and Wang Linchi survives.
"So, what's the bet?" Wang Linchi asked.
"A civilization's destruction within a year!" Changsun Zhong declared firmly.
"Oh? So confident, are you?" Wang Linchi didn't expect his opponent to dare to bet on civilization.
Regardless of winning or losing, the opposition still suffers loss, although Wang Linchi realized their bet allowed for carrying away remaining assets if lost, not all, indicating a premeditated decision to sacrifice some.
Changsun Zhong intended to refine and select, as not everyone qualified to join the Human Community. They didn't oppose the ambitious or scheming but excluded double-dealers and fence-sitters.
"I'm not confident. I'm merely contemplating escape from your grasp within a year," Changsun Zhong acknowledged the harsh reality: upon seeing the oasis pyramid, he recognized that their ragtag group was no longer effective against the enemy's ritual.
Buying time was his strategy—earnestly so. Since that's the case, I'll accept your challenge."
"You have one month to prepare. In a month, I will complete Ascension and take action," Wang Linchi promised earnestly.
Changsun Zhong had been forthright because, from previous failures, they knew that fairness sometimes occurred norallowed them toře empleasuresndibly honest alternatives, confronting them transparently increased the chance of fairness—otherwise, wouldslylyiplluthescasofleftwillingnessyhing and insidious.
Changsun Zhong didn't entirely rely on certainty but had to bet.
An upfront enemy significantly reduced the difficulty in achieving success, more so than a sinister foe.
"During this month, will you continue impacting the world?" Changsun Zhong asked.
"Yes, and feel free to bring others to interfere."
"But at your own risk," Wang Linchi replied with a smile, gentle like the Sun.
To Changsun Zhong, it seemed the words "like the" could be left out; maybe Wang Linchi was truly becoming the Sun.
Meng Gua caught a glimmer of hope in this statement; they would potentially prepare and then act.
A month later? That might be too late.
If he could capture the opponent and imprison him, it would avenge today's humiliation.
Yet Wang Linchi's sudden glance made him shiver, as though his thoughts were seen through. 'No, impossible. He's not using Psychic Abilities; how could he know?' Meng Gua consoled himself, using psychological assurance to swiftly regain composure.
