Chapter 817 - 817: Counteraccusation, Pleasant Lies
Chapter 817 - 817: Counteraccusation, Pleasant Lies
"You all are too kind, even bringing gifts after coming all this way." Wang Linchi beamed, he genuinely liked polite people. As a representative chosen by the monarchs of various countries, Zhu Hao was not actually a monarch. When assigned to this task, he was quite fearful, being someone in the upper echelons and privy to some truths.
However, everything was different upon genuinely reaching the Oasis Pyramid.
There was no alleged danger, nor was there any trouble.
Even the rumored culprit greeted them with neighborly warmth, as if Zhu Hao had come to the wrong place.
"It's my first visit, so I brought a small token." Zhu Hao hurried to say.
"Then I won't refuse." Wang Linchi observed that the preparations were thorough, with a variety of nice things among them.
Wang Linchi's enthusiasm made Zhu Hao have a strange thought—could there be some misunderstanding here?
Then Wang Linchi offered them some unique sweet water, which, to be honest, was quite deliciously sweet.
Amidst more polite exchanges, Zhu Hao felt more and more that something was amiss, prompting him to ask about the Ascension issue.
"Ascension? Of course, it means going home." Wang Linchi said righteously, "I came to your world because of a small accident."
"The moment I appeared, I hadn't done anything, yet I was imprisoned in your Strategy Bureau's iron jail."
"I didn't resist either, after all, I came by accident. A stranger in a strange land should go with the flow."
"Then they actually wanted to conduct destructive experiments on me. Understand? They were trying to kill me, so I had to escape."
"I ended up reaching the Sea of Death, and I thought, since there's nobody here, I might as well ascend. The principle is not much different than your transportation tools."
Wang Linchi poured out his grievances, adopting a stance of having done nothing wrong, yet being accused.
"But isn't the desertification and high temperature said to be caused by your ascension?" Zhu Hao decided to ask outright.
"Huh? What does that have to do with me? I haven't even left." Wang Linchi was utterly confused.
"And you've allegedly imprisoned the Sun, that's the disk at the pyramid's apex." Zhu Hao pointed out.
"Are you crazy? That thing's my compass. Also, how small do you think your Sun is?" Wang Linchi appeared exasperated, like he was hosting a madman.
In fact, he himself was starting to feel like a madman. Could that thing really be the Sun?
"If you don't believe me, send someone to pick it up from the top of the tower. There's an elevator inside that goes directly up." Wang Linchi nonchalantly pointed to the elevator behind him.
Zhu Hao awkwardly smiled and had someone handle it.
Within a few minutes, the team sent over brought back a disk. Upon inspecting it closely, though the compass seemed odd, it was entirely metal, which made it impossible to be the Sun.
"Any problems?" Wang Linchi asked, somewhat dissatisfied.
"No, none." Zhu Hao replied sheepishly.
"I didn't expect that you'd manage to accuse me instead. I haven't even caused you trouble yet, and you're determined to say I'm the culprit for your world's destruction."
"I was doing fine in my own world, and then BAM, for some inexplicable reason, I ended up in your world. Now you won't even let me leave and are blaming me as the mastermind of your world's destruction."
Wang Linchi continued complaining.
"But if these abnormalities have nothing to do with you, then what's the reason?" Zhu Hao furrowed his brow.
"How would I know? My situation is roughly equivalent to an ant getting sucked into a vacuum cleaner on the ground."
"You don't think I have the power to threaten the world, do you? An ant destroying a vacuum cleaner? Don't be ridiculous."
"It's more likely that your own world, due to some violation of natural law, is leading to its own damage, which consequently drags me into it."
Though it still sounded like whining, Zhu Hao detected something in Wang Linchi's words.
"Violation of natural law..." he muttered softly.
"Right, like water flows downstream. What if water flowed upstream instead? What would be the consequences?"
"At best, you'd have no water below, but at worst, you'd face gravitational issues." Wang Linchi gave an example.
"What if someone from the future came to the present?" Zhu Hao asked tentatively.
This question made Wang Linchi abruptly fall silent, his gaze sending chills down Zhu Hao's spine.
"Is there someone in your world who has been reborn or traveled against time?" Wang Linchi asked seriously.
"What if there is? What would happen?" Zhu Hao's heart skipped a beat.
"There's no saving it, just wait for death, farewell!" Wang Linchi got up, looking flustered.
Thankfully, Zhu Hao quickly grabbed Wang Linchi's arm: "Wait, at least give us some guidance, as friends."
"You guys have the nerve to pin the blame on me, when clearly it's something you caused, and you're dragging me into it."
"Let go, I need to leave. If I don't go now, it'll be too late, and I don't want to go down with you." Wang Linchi sounded panicked, tugging at his clothes trying to flee.
The more Wang Linchi acted like this, the more alarmed Zhu Hao became—it was a grave situation if the other party was desperate to escape, even changing demeanor in an instant, prompting Zhu Hao to cling even tighter.
"Let go, and I'll explain in detail." Realizing he couldn't break free, Wang Linchi reluctantly sat back down.
Yet Zhu Hao showed not the slightest sign of relaxing his hold.
Seeing this, Wang Linchi didn't continue telling him to let go and instead began to speak: "I'm not entirely clear about the specific situation, but I know the basics."
"Because someone from the future arrived in the present, their arrival didn't just cause a butterfly effect on the entire timeline but also brought about time disorder."
"The most basic points are what you mentioned earlier: the Sun staying at noon and the attack failure."
"Combining these two points, I can conclude that the Sun you see now isn't the current Sun, but the future Sun."
"You're attacking the future from the present—how could that succeed? It's like fishing out the moon from the water, is that possible?"
When Wang Linchi said this, Zhu Hao suddenly realized it all made sense, explaining why the Sun-destroying weapon appeared successful on paper but failed anyway.
"As for the desertification and high temperature you mentioned, that's simple too. Your world likely entered its final destruction phase due to the time line disorder and projected itself into the present."
"It's akin to future calamities showing up now." Wang Linchi explained further about the desertification and high temperatures.
"What? The world will really be destroyed!!!" Zhu Hao was also shocked.
"Calm down; the world does have a lifespan. But why would you panic? Even if human civilization perishes, you won't see the world's destruction. You don't expect the world to end tomorrow, do you? It could be tens of thousands of cycles away, and whether life exists then is unknown." Wang Linchi quipped.
Zhu Hao calmed down upon hearing this: "So there's no need to worry about the world's destruction?"
"Human civilization can't even reach a fraction of the world's lifespan. You'd better focus on how to survive the time disorder." Wang Linchi added a reminder.
The implication was that world destruction wasn't a concern, but he should worry about his own survival.
"Huh? Is there a way to resolve the time disorder?" Zhu Hao urgently asked.
"I don't know, I've never encountered it." Wang Linchi responded candidly, but then added, "But I can provide some ideas."
"Natural law issues are like the world's wounds, which can heal themselves, usually by just waiting."
"The world's damage isn't severe, but for you, it's different; you can't outlast the healing time."
"So the best approach is to expedite the world's healing to ensure survival, something I can't do."
"However, you can try disinfection, addressing the source that caused the wound." Wang Linchi hinted instead of speaking bluntly.
Zhu Hao understood what Wang Linchi meant.
"This is just a suggestion; there could be other solutions. After all, whoever ties the knot unties it. That person can reverse the future and might have related technological support."
"Anyway, enough said, I'm going to pack my things. I'll leave within half a month, don't bother keeping an eye on me." Having finished speaking, Wang Linchi intended to usher them out.
